I cannot believe that we had to change our plans literally days before our flight. I was extremely stressed out and disappointed that we were no longer going to Mexico to celebrate our 4 years of marriage. We could not for the life of us find Chris’ passport, so we had to pivot… QUICKLY!
We are not one to usually lose or misplace things, so this was all very surprising. Chris is wildly irresponsible with important documents such as his passport but can surprisingly find everything he needs when it’s time for its use. I mean, keeping some of his most important documents in plain sight or just in the most ridiculous places around the house. After countless suggestions of where to keep his important documents, the day finally came where we could not find the passport.
Four days before our trip I started packing and gathering the things we needed for 5 days of sand, sun, and most importantly… Margaritas! When I noticed that I would not find Chris’ passport in his usual “hiding” spot. I asked, “if he had used it recently for anything?” and he told me “No”. So now we are at a total lost. After searching the house for 2 days, we then reached out to inquire about a same day passport from a regional passport office. Needless to say, that did not work out.
I had to think fast, we already had flight tickets and rooms reserved. I called the resort to let them know we would no longer be able to make it. We cancelled our flights with Southwest which has a very generous cancellation policy that gave us flight credits in the amount of our full ticket price.
Since we already had the scheduled time off and childcare in place, we still wanted to travel somewhere. Most places were already booked up and flights were very limited. I knew that Chris probably felt bad about not being able to find his passport so I tried to think of a destination that he would really enjoy.
His favorite team in the Boston Red Sox so I suggested a trip to Boston, MA. He immediately agreed so we began planning our anniversary vacation. Planning our trip was rather easy. I utilized the flight credits we already had from our canceled trip to Mexico. We still have credits left over that we can use towards our next trip.
Once our flights were booked, we began looking for hotels. Since I knew that we were definitely going to a Red Sox game and I know I wanted to explore Downtown Boston, I looked for a hotel that was between the two. We booked a stay at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Boston Cambridge using the Marriott Bonvoy app.
Booking through the app allowed us to check in up to two days before our stay. We were able to choose the time of our arrival and the app sent us a notification to let us know when our room was ready. We had a pretty early flight so it was great that we could check-in as soon as our plane landed.
The Marriott Bonvoy app was also useful in letting us know the hotel amenities, local dining options, transportation, and nearby attractions. If you would like to learn more about other attractions in Boston, check out my blog post by clicking here.
If you are anything like me, I always leave the room key at the bottom of my purse. With the Marriott Bonvoy app, you can opt in for Mobile Key when you use Mobile Check-In. These were just a few features of the app, to learn more about the Marriott Bonvoy app, click here.
Although we had to make some last-minute adjustments to our plans, we still had a great time in Boston. I am glad that we were able to do something that Chris really enjoyed and that I got to experience for the first time.
Cheers to 4 years!
